Death Note Ep. 17

This was a great episode, it covers Volume 5: chapter 36 & 37. I really enjoyed watching these particular chapters animated. I’ve only read up to Volume 6 (it’s on my “to read list”, ok) and hoping that this gets better & better.

Short summary:
-3^rd Kira is killing 2 weeks worth of criminals
-50 days since Light, Misa, and Detective Yagami (Light’s father) have been in observatory lock-up
-L is still trying to get confession from Light & Misa, but no luck
-L then plans something with Dt. Yagami
-Light & Misa come out of observatory lock-up, then into a car driven by Dt. Yagami
-Dt. Yagami then drops the bomb by saying that he’ll kill Light then commit suicide
-he then shoots Light
-it was a blank, turns out that this was L’s plan to lure out Kira or 2^nd Kira, but since Light & Misa are oh so innocent, the plan fails
-now that Light is semi in the clear, he is able to help out with the investigation again…whilst attached to L 24 hrs a day
-meanwhile 3^rd Kira is in a meeting, talking to evil corporate bosses about who to kill to climb up a higher ladder

Animation was great as always (of course more so if it was DVD quality, but meh). I really like seeing innocent Light, makes you wonder if he’d be in the investigation team anyway even if someone else was Kira from the beginning. He’s old way of thinking is so far off then what he was like when he has the book. It’s amazing to see how one can change when one has the power to kill – or in Light’s mind, the power to judge.

Misa……no comment. She’s just nothing at times. I do like her seiyuu though, who doesn’t love Aya Hirano.

One of the things that I love about Death Note anime is the use of background music. This series has a lot of dialogue, therefore it’s great that there’s a nice instrumental track that helps those talkative scenes go by. I love the great suspenseful track near the end of the episode when Dt. Yagami is in the car with Misa & Light (L’s theme is super cool).

Well, since this is one of my favourite series at the moment, I think I might want to blog it every week.

Til next episode then, there’ll be a nice punch-on scene between Light and L that I’m looking forward to very much.
